About our Founding President

Daniel Stroup has focused his life on the study and performance of music. Completing his preliminary piano studies in his native Portland, Oregon, Mr. Stroup moved to New York City after receiving a scholarship to attend the Manhattan School of Music under the tutelage of Solomon Mikowsky. His studies also included Dalcroze Eurhythmics under Robert Abramson, Piano Pedagogy with Paul Sheftel and conducting with Giampaolo Bracali. He earned his Master Of Music Degree in 1989.

As a concert pianist, Mr. Stroup has appeared throughout the Far East, Europe and the United States including his NYC recital debut with his duo piano partner, Carlos Correa, at Alice Tully Hall, Lincoln Center and at Hong Kong’s City Hall Auditorium with the SAR Symphony Orchestra.

Mr. Stroup is also an active choral conductor. He was an invited guest conductor for the annual Messiah “Sing In” at Avery Fisher Hall, Lincoln Center for seven years. He is currently the conductor of the United Nations International School Vocal Chamber Ensemble. The Ensemble’ New York City engagements have included performances at the Harvard Club, the Shandelee Music Festival Showcase Series, La Guardia High School Center for the Performing Arts, the United Nations General Assembly Hall and St. Celilia’s Church among many others.

US tours have included performances in Boston, Connecticut, and most recently Portland, Oregon where the group performed at Reed College, University of Portland, and at the New Thought Center for Spiritual Living in Lake Oswego. European tours have included, Vienna, Austria where the group gave performances at the Serviten Church, the Vienna International School and the Vienna United Nations Rotunda. Other European concert tours have included performances in Stockholm, Sweden at the Chapel of the Royal Palace and Klara Cathedral and in Germany with concerts at St. Michaelis Kirche and St. Nikolai Kirche in Hamburg and at Kaiser-Wilh.-Gedachtnis Kirche in Berlin as well as a performance at the Berliner Dom. The ensemble has performed for former UN Secretary General Kofi Annan and also for the 60th Anniversary celebration of the UN School.

Mr. Stroup has been a member of the music faculty of the United Nations International School for over thirty years. He currently teaches private piano and conducts the Senior Choir and Chamber Ensemble. In addition, he is the coordinator for the UNIS Performing Arts Program.
